Pointillism is a very unique style and can definitely look good on some works. My suggestion though would be for you to look into dotting art, it's basically the same idea only you place the dots with a small-ended pen. The difference between pointillism and simple dotting is that, usually pointillism needs a rich and full background (things to be happening and whatnot) while with dotting, a single subject (like a brain in this case :P) can look much more powerful on it's own. In most cases it's a little harder to pull off because of the detail it requires to look good but since you already like a similar style it shouldn't be too hard :)...who knows you might even love it!!
